Open Ballet Classes: Our Levels
We are passionate about ballet, and our classes are filled with energy, enthusiasm, and the joy of movement. At The Center, you’ll be taught by international dancers in English. We offer open classical ballet classes at various levels for beginners, intermediate, and advanced dancers. Find the level descriptions below.
Our Ballet Class Levels
Ballet Beginners Level 1
This class is designed for beginners with some experience, building on the basics of ballet. It teaches foundational steps, vocabulary, and technique and will allow you to gain a good understanding of ballet. Barre and centre work include various exercises created uniquely by our professional teachers to increase strength, mobility, and correct placement. This is the perfect class for your first month (up to a year) of ballet training. Some previous ballet experience needed. If you have never danced before we highly recommend our Introduction to Ballet Course. Ballet shoes and appropriate dancewear required.
Level 1 Classes will run on a 4 module cycle. Each module will last a total of 4 weeks. You are welcome to drop in at any point in the cycle. Most students will join for an average of 3 full cycles in order to gain a full understanding of the material before moving on to Level 2. The amount of time spent in Level 1 will vary greatly depending on the individual, how much previous experience they have, how often they are taking class etc. Your teacher will let you know when you are ready to progress to Level 2.
Adagio - (4 weeks) · Turns - (4 weeks) · Traveling Steps - (4 weeks) · Jumps - (4 weeks)
Total Cycle Length = 16 weeks
Ballet Beginners Level 2
A full, 90 minute beginning-level classical ballet class suitable for those with previous experience in ballet. Exercises and combinations are longer, faster and more complicated than in Ballet 1. As we move forward with our technique in Beginners 2, we are able to utilize our knowledge through choreography and variations. This class is for Advanced Beginners who train regularly or have years of experience in Ballet. Ballet shoes and appropriate dancewear required.
Level 2 Classes will run on a 5 module cycle. Each module will last a total of 4 weeks. You are welcome to drop in at any point in the cycle. Most students will join for an average of 3 full cycles in order to gain a full understanding of the material before moving on to Level 3. The amount of time spent in Level 2 will vary greatly depending on the individual, how much previous experience they have, how often they are taking class etc. Your teacher will let you know when you are ready to progress to Level 3.

Ballet Level 3 - Intermediate
This class is a full 90 minute intermediate ballet class designed for those with several years of ballet experience, emphasising proper technical placement while encouraging students to grow their artistry using the language of classical ballet. By having a deeper understanding of ballet technique, we are now able to utilize what we have learned through longer, faster and more complicated exercises and combinations at the barre and in the centre. This class also introduces pointe work. Pointe Work is an optional part of the class, recommended for students who have had at least two years of recent ballet training or for those returning to ballet after a break.
Several years of previous ballet experience, ballet shoes and appropriate dancewear required.
